Would be healthy through exercise in polluted areas?

Aerobic activity is one way to maintain fitness and health. Unfortunately, that aerobic activity done outside the room, such as jogging or cycling at a high environmental pollution, to some extent still have a negative effect, especially if you suffer from asthma, lung disorders, or cardiovascular disease.

According to Professor Edward R Laskowski, MD, physician members of the American College of Sports Medicine, during aerobic activity, even a low intensity, you'll inhale 10 times higher than the rest.

In addition, when you exercise you will more often take a deep breath to the lungs and breathe more often through the mouth so that air could not be filtered by the filter system in the nose. This will increase the contact with the existing pollutants in the air.

The accumulation of exposure to air pollution and small particles, like dust, aerosols, or smoke, can cause health problems, such as damage to the small respiratory system in the lungs, increasing the risk of heart attack in elderly women, and increased risk of lung cancer .

Even so, Laskowski suggested that we not be afraid to exercise. To minimize the impact of air pollution while exercising, he gave the following tips:

- Select the appropriate time
Should select the time in the morning when air pollution is too high yet. You can also choose a location on the outskirts of cities or regions that low levels of pollution. To you who live in Jakarta, you can try cycling or jogging in the Old City area that is free of motor vehicles.

- Keep your distance
To reduce pollution, work out in a radius of more than 20 meters from the highway because of the high pollution levels within a radius of 15 meters from the road.

- Sports indoor
Vary the location of your sport. Occasionally do sports in the gym or jogging track within the room.
